Been working on material for the spot at the bowling club – which has finally been advertised! It’s not unusual to check the ads to really know if it’s going ahead.
The music is going OK, I’m not in love with it yet but it has a few good ideas swishing around the bottom of the beaker. Some familiar tropes. The idea is always to make the whole thing, forget it for a while and then attack it like a critic.
Meanwhile I’ve been thinking about Seances, having delivered an hour long performance last year which went OK but didn’t feel like it changed anything. The usual suspects came which was appreciated, but what can I do to expand artistically from that level?
You have to try out different ways of connecting with an audience. TikTok comes up a fair bit in mainstream marketing chat – I’m sorry but that sounds like singing to cats. My audience is out of their baby teeth and hopefully trying out sounds like I did in my early teens. The skate/fashion people I’ve been talking with are on Instagram so I thought that might be the place to start.
This is the abysmal image that so-called AI came up with when asked for a ‘man singing to an angry cat’. Just look at this shit. This is going to put people out of a job?
Let’s be clear – I signed off FaceBook because of morons and Twitter because of Nazis, I don’t intend to sneak back. There will be no conversation. There will instead be semi regular drops of small videos, each called a Séance, and no concern with collecting ‘friends’. It’s more about placing my weird paintings alongside all those ‘nice’ hotel room pictures.
Considerations – is the idea to be mysterious, or blatantly pull people back to my lair? Mysterious first. Should these be small sections of other things or autonomous? The latter – keep it utterly itself. Does this connect with the Séance compilation album under discussion? Actually no it doesn’t. Possible problem but not a serious one. A séance can have different purposes – to communicate with the dead or to learn more of the spiritual plane.
