Hello. This page reproduces tweets I made in the year 2013. Where there were multiple tweets in one day all the words are joined together, with asterisks marking a change of topic. It tries to remove all the wrapping around each tweet to let the words flow more quickly, if a bit scatterbrained. Many but not all links are dead. I will continue to clean up this mess and make notes as time permits.

I just met with a man with twelve Revox A77s. I tried explaining Eno. He didn’t get it. He likes Revox better than all his others.
“Look at this” he says, revealing more tape recorders stacked under the top layer.
He flies them in from all around the globe. He has them repaired, and then sells them to make money to buy more tape recorders.
He takes my cash, and instructs me how I must care for my tape recorder. If I ever sell it, it comes back to him. He is Saint Tape.
I tell him I sometimes make music only with tape recorders. He is enthralled and produces two reels with REVOX on them. “For you”.

Under Construction: a new level of hell especially for the authors of AVID MBox drivers. I will cheer lead the demons.
New driver crashes Cubase. Old driver crashes Reason. Propellerhead sent me a ‘AVID can’t code their own arse’ patch that fixes it.

HELLO MELBOURNE ARE YOU READY TO ROCK? Too bad, you’re getting me instead. DECEMBER 6th for @un_Magazine

After six years, it’s probably time to review the Blofeld Synthesiser. No point rushing these Things. http://t.co/95VaGoubrZ

Bid for a RADIAS, received a stage prop from a Skinny Puppy gig. How does a 19″ module need a stand that fills my office? Only KORG would come up with a custom designed stand and keyboard for one particular rack module. That’s why we love them.

*The Great Uploading of Student Films is under way. We’re at 3 hours and 20 minutes. Five PM today the gate shuts!
Pro tip: if your short film requires magic to advance the plot, you’re going to get a very magical assessment.
Pro tip: if your actors need to spend screen time explaining what’s happening, I’ll spend time explaining what’s not going to happen.
Pro tip: if the wind sound is louder than the dialogue, I’ll treat it as your protagonist.
Pro tip: apparently tripods work pretty good for holding the camera steady.
Pro tip: focus isn’t the only thing you’re pulling.

Somebody sure loved this AKAI sampler. Physically and repeatedly by the internal cleaning I’m having to do. It’s been tagged by a college as recently as 2007. 21 years of inestimable horror in the hands of ‘art’ ‘students’. Now if only I could buy one more MIDI cable, we’ll see if it works. Oh yeah, and some QUICK DISCS, how could I forget them?
“I hear you’re collecting kitsch synthesisers – I might have something REALLY BAD for you”.
Best. News. Ever.
Nov 9, 2013
Started the AKAI & gave it a signal, & after 27 years it’s still trucking. That is if you drive your truck through a shop front & loop it.

Money from Dead Eyes Opened comes in, gets spent on bad synthesisers. Alchemy; Shit turns into Gold.
I have found a Roland thing that will go SWEET with my Roland Pumpkinbox. For DJs only! Can you guess what it is?
Loaded the Blofeld up with waves from bees, mosquitos, aircon, andy williams, anvils, shortwave, opera and misc. I think I’m about ready.

Too expensive, too far away. We will wait longer in our funnel web. Actually it’s not toooo expensive but $100 in postage reminds one of the Tyranny Of Distance.

*Google just asked if I want to get certified to teach uploading to YouTube. 2 day course with exam. Thoughts come to me, none pretty. If I did this, I would become ‘YouTube Certified’. *Pinnacle of my tertiary education credentials along with ‘can use scissors unaided’.

Better hang onto it.

*The guy selling the Kawai 100F is next door to the pub next to the pub to which I live next door. Surprised I haven’t heard it from here. I guess the sound I thought was a mid air collision with debris raining down on a kindergarten was actually the 100F in the distance.
*Off to the local cinema to pre-test the COFA end of year short ‘film’ screenings. More complicated than you think.

COFA Annual Screening delivered without cinema burning down from exploding Dolby processor. A win for brickwall limiting. People who whine about sitting through films should try standing up through them in the bio box (= projection booth in yank.) (‘Bio Box’ comes from Biograph = film name in Australia which BTW made the first feature film & multimedia presentation. So, we win.)

Rehearsing for Friday Melbourne gig. Haven’t done some of these video cutups since Perth in 2007 and I must have been in speed or something. Weird seeing analogue TV mash ups of John Howard and Kevin Rudd again. Not in a good way.

Is it a full moon today? Maybe not in Sydney, perhaps all the people around me are responding to the dual moons of Planet Zog. The Zog tides got to be at peak, everyone’s at nutcase factor six. Still asking? C’mon people.

*More time wasted politely listening to talk of Miley Cyrus. Something anxiously suffocating about prole bait, as if it accelerates ageing.
*Big dump of Blackmagic cameras now sorted and I’m puzzling over RAW video & LUTs and how the hell we’re going to teach with these things. RAW video sounds great but without a Look Up Table appears same colours as dog droppings. Better build a macro or students will freak out. Going to need to add a few weeks on colour grading skills. Now how am I going to hide that as ‘cross media research methodologies’
*2 requests this week for music for soundtracks. Sure – but only if the 8mm film is also 30 years old. Otherwise PISS OFF I AIN’T DEAD YET.

Replacing THIS ALBUM IS RECOMMENDED FOR HEADPHONE LISTENING with THIS ALBUM RODE A F-ING DINOSAUR unless you reply a better suggestion.
Well damn. The STA cover is metric & the CSH cover is inches. An inch is three grains of barley placed end to end, lengthwise. Need barley. So this bit is 7/8th of 3 grains of barley or 2.675 grains. or the larger part of a king’s left nostril… hell I’ll use metric.

So here’s the near-final layout. Note my professional leading/kerning unlike original. 5 years in layout moi. http://t.co/JQGIzHSBR1

Knocked this off today as well. A bit more to do with the titles depending on which way we decide. http://t.co/ezX2kiNdlq
Having laid out 256 page catalogues, doing album covers is a complete doddle. Plus I use the correct damn titles.

We are seriously in a era which will be remembered for “my robot is bigger than your robot”. It’ll be as quaint as mainframe computers.
I begin to understand how ‘uncreative writing’ reflects our culture, but it stills seems a reactionary dead end.
All that’s required is to change the scale of a ‘word’. The rest is politics.

Best thing about Xmas – the inner city empties out as everyone goes back to their ancestral suburbs. It’s gone quiet like a country town. It’s actually near silent, makes your ears hurt. It’ll last a few days before the financial planners et al return to infest the real estate.

There are more proprietary sample formats in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. If I go with SFZ everyone will be equally inconvenienced.
