The Lemon sat in a store front for some time. The front of the box was badly faded – it had felt sun for years before somebody in Japan realised this would lure a greedy fish. It was not cheap, but it wasn’t really that much either – not for a child’s electric organ in the shape of a giant lemon, with all the bits of paper, pictures of small children from 1970-something wearing paper animal hats and diligently typing out bites of Beethoven.
The sound is not particularly distinct, an average monophonic organ. I sampled it onto my Roland Fantom and have since positioned it in various shrines around the house. Two of the three sound effects are working. The notable feature I guess is that you can tune an FM radio to to pick up the Lemon. Fortunately for the neighbours I don’t think FM radios have been a thing for quite some time.
Any interest in selling or trading this beauty? It’s my white whale. I missed my chance to buy it on eBay in 2016 and I’ve regretted it ever since. I wonder if you bought the exact one I was looking at – it also came from a shop in Japan.
I am very sorry to have deprived you of your lemon. It looks like it was popular so don’t despair. I promise that I will let you know if I am having a sale.
After searching daily for the past few years, there was presented exactly the same kind of faded box with all the trimmings inside, in Thailand at the time. It cost ‘way too much but living on pension and disability is like endless free money, so who cares. My only concern is how long I can keep up this scam while outrunning the grim reaper. Hm. Isn’t that really everybody’s concern? Having one of those multiband crank radios is tempting me to become my own pirate music station.
